Mac & These is a small set of hand-picked Mac apps: not every app out there, just the ones we’d tell a friend about.

How an app gets picked

We install and use every app before it goes on. It has to be well made, feel at home on a Mac, and be straight about what it costs. Most apps we try don’t make it, and that’s the point.

Apps are grouped into collections by what you’re trying to do, like first apps on a new Mac, or you can browse them all.

An honest take on each

Every listing says why it’s here, and who it’s not for. No app is right for everyone, and knowing when to skip one is as useful as knowing when to get it.

Prices, versions and requirements change, so each app page shows when we last checked it.

How it’s paid for

Listing is free. Makers can also pay to feature their app in the homepage hero for 30 days: that buys a review within 24 hours, never a yes, and apps that aren’t a fit are refunded. Featured cards are always labelled, and they never change what we write about an app or where it shows up otherwise.
